There are always opportunities to help with short-term projects or serve on committees or task groups. NSLHA is always looking for members representing diverse experiences, perspectives and interests to share their expertise, experiences and ideas. It’s a great opportunity to enhance your leadership skills and learn more about our profession and industry.
Some of the ways that you can volunteer include:
- Organizing a food drive or toy drive in your NSLHA region or local community
- Videotaping a brief segment about a speech-language or hearing
- Sharing ideas for professional development and continuing education topics
- Recruiting speakers for education programs
- Introducing speakers at conferences
- Helping at NSLHA's Fall Convention (contact the NSLHA office for a detailed list)
- Sponsoring a speaker or providing a sponsorship for an event
- Recruiting new exhibitors and/or sponsors
- Mentoring a student or new graduate
- Reaching out to prospective members and inviting them to participate in NSLHA events
- Presenting a webinar or convention education session for NSLHA
- Being featured in NSLHA's Spotlight section of the website
- Writing or suggesting content or resources for the website
- Participating in NSLHA Connects (NSLHA Facebook group) where you can ask questions, participate in thought-provoking conversations, share ideas and best practices, and post resources and information with fellow members
- Testifying on behalf of NSLHA at state legislative committee hearings, as those needs arise
- Developing and maintaining connections with your state senator
- Writing letters, sending emails and/or making phone calls to your state senator regarding specific speech language and hearing related issues
- Volunteering for a state senator candidate’s campaign
- Meeting with your state senator during NSLHA's Lunch with a Legislator
- Hosting a fundraising event for a state senator candidate at your clinic or in your community
- Attending a fundraising event for a state senator candidate and making a financial contribution to the candidate’s campaign
- Hosting a visit by your state senator or any of Nebraska’s national lawmakers at your school or clinic and with patients to gain a better understanding of the value and benefits of speech-language and hearing services provided
- Representing NSLHA at an allied organization’s meeting or event
