Get Involved in NSLHA Committees

Enhance your leadership skills, contribute to your state professional association and learn from your peers by short-term involvement and service through a NSLHA Committee.

  • Continuing Education Committee solicits feedback from members regarding professional development and continuing education needs, contacts prospective speakers and plans education for NSLHA professional development and continuing events, including: Fall Convention, webinars and workshops.
  • Insurance and Reimbursement Committee works with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Medicaid managed care organization representatives to recommend solutions, with a focus on providing the best quality care and services possible to clients. The committee also regularly discusses changes in regulations, processes and reimbursement that affect audiology and speech-language pathology services and offers constructive comments to DHHS.
  • Legislative Affairs Committee works with the NSLHA lobbyist to develop strategies to monitor and respond to legislation and licensure issues on behalf of audiologists and speech-language pathologists. Attends legislative committee hearings and testifies on behalf of NSLHA as needed.
  • Membership Committee oversees marketing activities as they relate to membership recruitment, engagement and promotion of the audiology and speech-language pathology professions.
  • Public Relations Committee suggests content for the NSLHA website and social media, promotes Better Hearing and Speech Month in Nebraska, and selects NSLHA’s Better Hearing and Speech Month representatives.
  • School-Based Issues Committee addresses current practices and issues relative to speech, language, and hearing services in the school, and monitors, reviews, and recommends association action on state, federal and ASHA legislation which affects the speech/language pathologists and audiologists working in school environments.Current issues include: SLP shortages in Nebraska; Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS);        caseload vs. workload issues; telepractice guidelines; and dyslexia.

Research Policy and Current Studies

NSLHA will post research participant recruitment flyers on its website if all of the following conditions are met.

Responsibility for the design, conduct and dissemination of the research rests solely with the investigator(s).

Investigator or key personnel on the project must be a NSLHA member in good standing.

Project must have IRB approval. Formal approval must be clearly visible on the posted flyer (e.g., IRB dated stamp of approval) or clearly indicated by the investigators using other recruitment means (e.g. videos).

Contact information must be clearly visible on the posted recruitment materials.

Investigators agree to submit their research findings for presentation at the annual NSLHA Convention.

When feasible to do so (e.g. when results are published), investigators agree to provide a brief written summary of key research findings for NSLHA to share with the membership via its website.

Flyers will be removed from the website at the earliest time point that reflects: 1) the IRB expiration date listed on the IRB approval; 2) one year after posting; or 3) the request to do so by the investigator.
