Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Association Legislative Advocacy Day

Wednesday, March 11, 2020
12 - 1 p.m.  Lunch with a Legislator - Coordinate lunch with your state senator in their office at the State Capitol in Lincoln
1 - 5 p.m.    Witness Legislative Proceedings at the Capitol
5:30 p.m.    Networking Reception with State Senators at Billy's Restaurant in Lincoln (near the Capitol)

Lunch with a Legislator

Lunch with a Legislator is an opportunity to meet with your state senator in their office at the Capitol, educate them about speech-language-hearing services, and advocate for issues impacting your profession in 2020. If you aren’t sure who your state senator is, please locate them through the Nebraska Legislature’s website.

Please sign up to host a senator by completing this Google document.

After signing up, Adrian Sanchez (NSLHA staff) will contact you to provide instructions on how to make an appointment with your senator. Professional members, we would like to have up to two students join you for the meeting. This will be a great opportunity for them to learn about advocacy and the legislative process.

Networking Reception with State Senators at Billy’s Restaurant

NSLHA is also hosting an evening reception with State Senators on Wednesday, March 11, at Billy’s Restaurant beginning at 5:30 p.m. Join us at Billy’s to discuss issues impacting clients, patients, and students across the state, including legislative bills for an interstate licensure compact for audiology and speech-language pathology and enhanced oversight of the Heritage Health Medicaid Managed Care organizations. The reception is a tremendous opportunity to build effective relationships with state senators and educate them about speech-language-hearing services in Nebraska.

The impact that you can have by connecting with your state senator, building a relationship, and offering support is tremendous. Please plan to attend and share your ideas, concerns and recommendation with state senators on how to enhance speech-language-hearing services for Nebraskans. It’s an opportunity to build relationships with state senators, while educating and informing them about the speech-language-hearing profession in our state. This is increasingly important, as the healthcare environment continues to change, and the ability to deliver speech-language-hearing services becomes increasingly challenging.
